Seoul-based textile company Hyosung has formulated a new bio-based Creora spandex made with a higher content of renewable resources that reduces the yarn’s carbon footprint even more than the first commercial Creora which was made with 30 percent renewable resources.

According to an independent third-party LCA, manufacturing 1 kilogram of Creora bio-based spandex generates 20 percent less carbon than producing the same volume of conventional spandex. The eco-friendlier input has been picked up by major global brands, according to Hyosung.

At Performance Days and Functional Fabric Fair, Hyosung will also present new entries in its GRS-certified Ocean nylon range made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled fishing nets. The company has collaborated with Dimension-Polyant, the world’s largest sailcloth producer and maker of the X-Pac waterproof laminates developed for packs and bags. They have integrated the fiber into the construction of X-Pac VX21 Black, a bestseller made with a four-layer laminate that’s rugged, flexible and waterproof.
“We are thrilled that Dimension-Polyant has joined our growing number of valued partners who’ve adopted our specialty fibers,” said Roman Park, Hyosung performance leader, nylon and polyester. “Collaboration along the supply chain is how great products are created.”
At the marquee denim show, Kingpins Amsterdam, Hyosung will present items made with its Creora 3D Max spandex, known for its high-performance stretch and recovery whose small proportion of spandex allows it to be recycled.
Hyosung has also added a number of Creora 3D Max offerings with the same sustainable and functional version of the fiber that boasts the same performance and recyclability features of conventional Creora 3D Max spandex. They include USDA and SGS-certified Creora bio-based 3D Max spandex, RCS certified, 100 percent recycled Creora regen 3D Max spandex made from industrial waste, and Creora Easy 3D Max spandex that has excellent stretch and is recyclable.
